Big Hearts Big Family was founded by Derek and Sarah Whitmire in January of 2020 after 11 years of getting to know a very special family through a reading buddy program at a public kindergarten.

Developing a relationship with these single mothers, their children and grandchildren has become a passion project for the Whitmires and all of their friends, family and loved ones.

After a number of successful online fundraisers, golf tournaments and a dinner event which received some local publicity, we decided to formalize our efforts to help our "adopted families" increase self sufficiency.

We provide rent and medical assistance, transportation, and necessary educational materials for the families we support. None of these items have ever been requested of us but rather we provide support when we see a need we would like to fill.

Recipients must be working full time and receiving all government assistance they qualify for.

Well, we think that is how all people receive love. The holistic change we all want to see in the world starts with building trusting relationships by investing our most precious commodity. Time.

We can't do anything to help someone without first coming to know someone.
